 Message From Our Program Coordinator

I want to thank all of the volunteers who are coming now in the winter months. Although Israel's "winter" is certainly not as bad as most of you experience back home, it still is cold and wet--not ideal conditions for army base living. But our volunteers still have a wonderful time.

The warm relationships that develop within the groups make up for the cold weather outside. We love to welcome back "veteran" volunteers and we love seeing people greet fellow volunteers whom they served with in the past. The newcomers are always amazed how happy some of our volunteers are to reunite with old Sar-El friends.

Israeli President Shimon Peres recently honored several volunteers in Israel and he said the following:

"Without volunteers, Israel would never have been established and without volunteers, Israel cannot exist." He also added, "Whoever volunteers becomes a partner in the effort to fix the world."

I remember when I first volunteered with Sar-El, my cousin, a retired general, said to me, "Now you are a partner with us."

This is the way all of you who volunteer for Sar-El should feel---you truly are our partners. Thank you all for your time and effort.

Please note that there is a new phone/fax # in my office: 03-526-7513.

I want to say a special Kol Ha Kavod to Sar-El lecturer, Stuart Palmer. As of Jan. 7, 2011, Stuart has lectured to 56 Sar-El groups in the last 4 years. His newsletter now reaches a very international audience because of Sar-El, 67% of Stuart's readers reside abroad.

If you have not heard Stuart's lectures, hopefully you will on your next Sar-El program. If you want to sign up to his newsletter contact him at  stuartp@netvision.net.il

Remember, these winter months are slow for us compared to the summer. The bases are requesting more volunteers--we need YOU! Please sign up soon.

I hope to see you soon,

We'll miss you at the parachutes,
We'll miss you at the flag,
We'll miss you at the salad bar
 And when we're eating eggs.

 You've lifted heavy boxes,
 You've dirtied up your hands,
You've climbed the shelves up to the top, And scooped up loads of
 sand.

But fly off safe and kiss your wife, and hug your lovely kids, Dream
of dust and dirt and rust, And jet planes splitting air, And know for
sure you'll soon be back in Eretz Yisrael.

Oh Volunteer, Oh Volunteer, we're sad to see you go

So lets raise a glass to the IDF
 And their soldiers everywhere,
To the madrichot and the rain last night And to the Volunteer.
