Sar-Elniks Pack Emergency Supplies For Japan
|
|
Following the devastating earthquake
and resulting tsunamis, Sar-El volunteers are busy packing
supplies to be sent to Japan with Israeli medical teams.
The Israeli medical delegation will
establish a clinic geared to handle the casualties and refugees concentrated in
the Miyagi prefecture, six hours north of Tokyo.
Long-serving volunteers Carol and Jerry report from the field:![]()
We are serving at a medical supply base near Tel Aviv. There are 36 of us; most other bases get only 12-14 volunteers assigned to them..
Last year we were on a base in Eilat on the Jordanian border. Before that, we were here packing medical supplies. This is Carol's 3rd time working with Peggy and my 2nd time with Mosheich. We love working with them because they are so dedicated and easy to work for. Photo Above: Courtesy of the IDF Spokesperson.
Carol and I are packing medical supplies that are going to JAPAN with the Israeli medical teams! Amazing. Bet you won't hear about it on CNN! Carol's team is packing the doctors' kits (40 lbs each); my team is packing general medical supplies. The work is hard (tiring) but very rewarding. We love it!
The bunks are very small. Carol has five ladies in her room and I have five men in my room. The metal cots have three-inch mattresses. Takes some time getting used to! For comparison, my office at our home at Addison is the same size as our room here. But with five men living together! Like camp but with less room! But we are not on vacation, so we go with the flow.
We have such a diverse group with us at the medical supply base -- from many countries, different ages, Jews and non-Jews. Carol has great roommates and so do I. Very interesting people with such diverse backgrounds. Makes it so interesting.
We left the base Thursday afternoon and are spending the weekend (Friday and Saturday) at a hotel here in Tel Aviv.
Carol and I get such a high every time we come here. There are close to 300 volunteers on this [tour of duty].
