Sar-El Helped me Prepare to Enlist

 in The Israeli Army

My name is Mark Hafter and I am a former Sar-El volunteer. By Thursday, June 24th 2009 I will be an Israeli citizen and will have made Aliyah. I know you like to keep track of these things as an organization, but I also wanted to voice my thanks to Sar-El.

My volunteering time was one of the best experiences of my life and from it I got a better idea of what it felt like to wear the IDF uniform (which I will be wearing for a much longer time in the next few years) and what it felt like to be "alone" in the land of Israel. Sar-El also helped me realize even further my love for Israel and my desire to help the country in whatever way I could.

The feeling I got from volunteering on my base was like no other, and I am excited to continue to support Israel as a citizen and a soldier. I remember calling Sar-El's Program Coordinator Pamela Lazarus when I cleared customs, not knowing where to go, and it was very good to talk to someone who knew exactly what was going on. She just said "look for the soldiers." That was enough, and within a few seconds I was with the group.

Thank you for your leadership of this program and I hope it continues for many years to come.

Mark Hafter
