Pam Lazarus reports on World Machal Reunion

I was very honored to be invited to the World Machal Reunion by veteran volunteer Martin Silver, held on May 13, 2008. I joined Martin, his wife Sheila, and about 200 machalniks. The Machal unit of the IDF was made up of volunteers from outside Israel who came to fight in 1947-48. Zippy Porath, (author of Letters from Jerusalem) who is a Sar-El lecturer, was one of the organizers of the event. Stuart Palmer, another Sar-El lecturer, was also a guest of Martin.

Moshe Arens (a former Minister of Defense) gave the opening speech (he is a cousin of a Sar-El volunteer). An IDF general also spoke about the Machal unit. Sar-El, the IDF and Machal are all strongly connected.

I thank Martin Silver for this honor to be among such a distinguished group. Because of the dedication of these Machalniks, I and so many of our Sar-l volunteers were able to make Aliyah!

Continue the Machal spirit and come to Israel and volunteer with Sar-El.
