A second session with Sar-El

By Ann Levin

I recently returned from my second year as a Sar-el volunteer. Last year I was at Julis for 3 wonderful weeks. Working in an IDF kitchen may not be everyone's idea of a vacation, but for me, to feel I was doing something of use as well as being with like minded people who share my love, passion and commitment to Israel, is just about all I could ask for.

This year I spent 3 weeks at Tel Hashomer working on refurbishing medical supplies and equipment. Again to experience the camaraderie of being with like minded people from many different countries, life styles and religious faiths is a tonic during these terrible times of media hostility and of negativity towards Israel. Sar-el has made me a stronger person and I am grateful to have the opportunity to support Israel in a positive way. Sharing the experience with so many wonderful people is truly the icing on the cake. Working side by side with soldiers shows them that they are not as isolated as they feel - and helps the volunteers to not  feel so far removed from the current situation in Israel.
