Sar-El hi,
I am Lou Scop, previously from South Africa, and now living in Netanya, Israel. First I must mention that I made aliya (in Oct 1999), as a direct result of my Sar-El experiences.
Once again I find myself at your wonderful site, and enjoying the memories of those good volunteering times. NOW, it is time for some accolades from me and here I want to give my short story.
I have done several Sar-El programs and they were all great experiences, and although its not an easy choice to compare, I will say that the first was the best, and that was at Mara 860. This base is located next to Tel Nof air base where young soldiers are taught how to parachute jump out of airplanes and where I (we) helped the female soldiers [ little girls really ], fold up and re-pack parachutes in this large building that has a few floors and a "flow-line" with long long tables where this complicated folding work takes place.
I also worked in some offices doing an assortment of top secret jobs, like covering books with plastic and stapling together some loose pages of words. I earned great respect from the commander, and others because I handled the stapler with such expertise. I also worked in the kitchen and mess (eating hall), and in our sleeping quarters and in the grounds, and showed how marvellous I was handling a mop and a broom...
I met so many lovely people from all over the world at the various programs, and some of the very best were the group of younger volunteers from Russia and those places who I was with at Matsrap.
I would welcome replies from any volunteer to e.mail louisdrinkingt@013.net and look forward to meeting with some in the future.
Best wishes and best regards,
Lou
