SAR-EL VOLUNTEER RULES

(As of December, 2012)

 

1. MEDICAL INSURANCE COVERAGE IS MANDATORY FOR THE WHOLE TIME YOU ARE DOING SAR-EL. YOU MUST CARRY YOUR CARD OR POLICY WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES.

2. YOU MUST CARRY A COPY OF YOUR PASSPORT AND INSURANCE CARD ON YOU AT ALL TIME (BOTH ON & OFF THE BASE).

3. WEEKEND TRAVEL—DUE TO SECURITY REGULATIONS, VOLUNTEERS MUST HAVE PERMISSION FOR ALL WEEKEND TRAVEL. SOME LOCATIONS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED WHILE ON THE PROGRAM. TRIPS TO EGYPT (INCLUDING SINAI) & JORDAN (INCLUDING PETRA) ARE NOT ALLOWED WHILE YOU ARE ON SAR-EL.

4. PROGRAM ACTIVITIES & TRIPS–

TRIPS & EVENING ACTIVITIES ARE PART OF THE SAR-EL PROGRAM AND ARE MANDATORY. YOUR MADRICHOT & THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT SPEND A LOT OF TIME PLANNING THESE ACTIVITIES. IF YOU HAVE SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES (e.g. FLIGHTS), TALK TO YOUR MADRICHOT.

5. YOUR MADRICHOT ARE YOUR “OFFICERS”. YOU MUST FOLLOW THEIR RULES & RESPECT THEIR DECISIONS. IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS OR QUESTIONS, DISCUSS THINGS WITH YOUR MADRICHOT. HOWEVER PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THEY MUST GET APPROVAL FROM THEIR OFFICER FOR YOUR SPECIAL REQUESTS. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CALL PAMELA WITH ANY QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS (0528-219945).

6. FLAG RAISING IS MANDATORY. YOU ARE PART OF YOUR BASE & YOU MUST RESPECT & FOLLOW ALL RULES OF THE BASE.

7. CLEAN-UP DUTY—

EVERYONE MUST DO HIS OR HER PART TO KEEP YOUR LIVING QUARTERS & BATHROOMS CLEAN. IF YOU’RE SCHEDULED FOR DUTY, PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE & DO YOUR JOB.

8. KITCHEN DUTY—

EVERYONE MUST TAKE HIS OR HER TURN IF KITCHEN DUTY IS REQUIRED.

9. NO PROSELYTIZING, DRUGS OR ALCOHOL. NO INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR, INCLUDING SEXUAL HARASSMENT OR AGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR. 

IF ANYONE VIOLATES ANY OF THESE POLICIES, HE OR SHE WILL BE IMMEDIATELY DISMISSED FROM THE PROGRAM. PROSELYTIZING INCLUDES DISCUSSING YOUR RELIGION WITH SOMEONE WHO DOESN’T HAVE THE SAME BELIEFS AS YOU IN A MANNER WHICH IS INTENDED TO BE PERSUASIVE OR WHICH IS OFFENSIVE. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DISTRIBUTE ANY RELIGIOUS LITERATURE. THIS ALSO APPLIES TO WEEKENDS OR TIMES WHEN YOU ARE OFF THE BASE OR AT BEIT ODED.

10. POLITICS—

WE UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO BE IN ISRAEL & NOT DISCUSS POLITICS. DISCUSSIONS MUST BE KEPT TO A MINIMUM, WITHOUT EXHIBITING STRONG OR VIOLENT OPINIONS. YOU MAY NOT JOIN ANY POLITICAL DEMONSTRATIONS OR DISTRIBUTE POLITICAL LITERATURE WHILE ON SAR-EL.

11. WATER—PLEASE CONSERVE YOUR WATER USAGE.

12. PROGRAM EXTENSIONS—YOU MAY EXTEND YOUR INITIAL 3 WEEK PROGRAM ONLY IF:

A. YOU HAVE SAR-EL’S APPROVAL;

B. YOU HAVE VALID MEDICAL INSURANCE; &

C. YOUR VISA IS VALID;

D. YOU TELL PAMELA BY THE END OF THE 2ND WEEK..

THE MAXIMUM TIME TO BE ON A PROGRAM IS THE LESSER OF 3 MONTHS OR THE DATE WHEN YOUR TOURIST VISA EXPIRES.

13. YOU MUST HAVE ADVANCE PERMISSION FROM YOUR MADRICHA TO LEAVE THE BASE FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION.

14. ARMY UNIFORMS, BOOTS, SWEATERS, JACKETS, ETC. MAY NOT BE TAKEN OFF THE BASE. ALL ITEMS MUST BE RETURNED AT THE END OF PROGRAM.

15. VISA EXTENSIONS—SAR-EL DOES NOT GIVE LETTERS FOR VISA EXTENSIONS. YOU MUST GO TO THE MINISTRY OF INTERIOR (MISRAD HAP’NIM) YOURSELF & APPLY FOR EXTENSION.

16. WE KNOW HOW MUCH YOU WILL LOVE YOUR MADRICHOT/MADRICHIM & WILL WANT TO SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION AT THE END OF THE PROGRAM. HOWEVER PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ACCEPT MONEY.

17. WE WELCOME YOUR ARTICLES & PICTURES BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU PHOTOGRAPH—NO PICTURES WHICH MAY BE A BREACH OF SECURITY. DO NOT MENTION THE NAME OF YOUR BASE IN ARTICLES, JUST THE GENERAL LOCATION (NORTH, CENTER, SOUTH, ETC.). ASK YOUR MADRICHA IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT SECURITY ISSUES.

18. DO NOT WALK AROUND THE BASE (OUTSIDE OF IMMEDIATE AREA) WITHOUT YOUR MADRICHA’S PERMISSION.

19. BEIT ODED IS FOR WEEKENDS, NOT DURING THE WEEK.

20. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT WHETHER YOU CAN DO SOMETHING, ASK YOUR MADRICHA FIRST.

21. SAR-EL RESERVES THE RIGHT TO IMMEDIATELY DISMISS YOU IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW ALL SAR-EL RULES & BASE RULES &/OR DO NOT ACT IN AN APPROPRIATE MANNER.
